2006 Jeep Compass – The wheel fell off while my mom was driving, plus it had endless issues before that.
2011 Volkswagen Tiguan – Got into an accident in 2020 while it already had 3-4 problems no mechanic could figure out. I ended up upside down in it, and it was totaled, which honestly felt like a blessing.
That brings me to my current car: a 2006 Honda CRV. After my VW was totaled, I had nothing but bad luck with cars and couldn’t afford much, especially a newer one. A friend of mine had an '03 CRV and swore by it. I test-drove some newer cars but kept coming back to this '06 CRV. I bought it for $6,500 with 130,000 miles on it. It’s been paid off for a while now and is currently sitting at around 155,000 miles.
If you’re from PA, you know how tough our inspections can be. In the 4 years I’ve owned it, it’s never failed inspection or had any major problems—just routine maintenance and inspections. Last year, my mechanic even joked that this car would probably outlive both of us.
When I first got it, I installed CarPlay, so it doesn’t feel like an old car at all. It drives great, gets good MPG, and is hands-down the best car I’ve ever owned.
I know some people won’t drive an older car because they care about looks, but I think she still looks great. I’m so thankful for this car! Plus, the value hasn’t dropped much since I bought it, which is pretty awesome. Just wanted to give this beast of a car some love.
Just about to hit 300k on my 2007… best car I’ve ever had by far. The A/C went out this year, which is fairly common and not inexpensive to fix, but besides that I’ve had zero problems, and to be honest I haven’t kept up with maintenance as much as she deserves.
@Sawyer
I dropped about 1300 in labor alone to fix my AC compressor lol but I agree I love my 2007 just needing to upgrade my headlights but I’m positive mine will run as long as yours

There is a cheaper alternative if you can do without the AC! A pulley in place of the compressor cost me 220 in parts and labor, she’s been going strong since.
2006 is my favorite CR-V year. I was on my way to buy an AWD one a few days ago in immaculate condition, and the guy sold it as I was on my way. Still heartbroken.

I have the folding table too! Sorry you missed out.

Happened to me. I was gonna buy one of my old cars back. I took a shower, dried off, and checked my messages, and it was sold😫. I think about that daily.
I have a 2003, and it really is the best car. I LOVE this generation of CR-V - I wish the newer gens didn’t go so ‘mom car.’
I’m just about to pass her along to a family friend and upgrade to a new car - I’m sad to see her go, but also ready for a few more of the modern conveniences now!
I love my 2009 Honda Accord. It may not be pretty, but the mechanics are always amazed at how good the engine looks. Never had a problem with it. Bonus: you don’t have to worry where you park so your car doesn’t get dinged. Next car: a Honda in another few years.
