2013 CR-V MPG Drop – What’s Going On?

Hey everyone! I’ve got a 2013 CR-V and lately, it feels like it’s drinking gas way too fast. I used to get around 20 mpg, but now it’s dropped to 16.2 over the past year, mostly city driving. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? I’m thinking it might be the oil filter or maybe something in the fuel system. Any advice would be awesome! Thanks a lot!

Hey, that drop could be a bunch of things. Have you checked your tire pressure? Low tire pressure can tank your mpg. Also, make sure you’re up to date with air filter changes. A dirty air filter can make a big difference!

Could be your oxygen sensor going bad. If it’s not working properly, your engine might be running richer than normal (aka more fuel burn). I’d get it checked out. Also, maybe run some fuel injector cleaner through the system.

With mostly city driving, it could just be the stop-and-go that’s killing your fuel economy. If you haven’t had a tune-up in a while, that might help too. Spark plugs and ignition coils, maybe?

Winter fuel blend, if you’re in a colder climate, can hurt mpg too. Not sure where you live, but that might be a factor. Also, make sure you’re not carrying extra weight in the car you don’t need!

Check your oil quality. Old oil can make the engine work harder and burn more gas. And yeah, like someone else said, tire pressure is key. Super easy to forget but it makes a big difference.
