Two days ago, my radar was stolen in the Brooklyn area. I took my car to the dealer, but their prices are outrageous.
Would it be cheaper to buy a replacement from Facebook Marketplace and have a local shop program it? Also, if I file a theft claim and get it fixed through the dealer, will my insurance rates go up?
@Cody
Yeah, it seems like you need to carry good insurance in case of theft, and you need to dump the thing every 3 to 5 years to keep from losing your ass outside of warranty.

100%. If it’s not the 1.5T eating a head gasket or the turbo, it’s fuel injectors or a lidar sensor jacked up or the soft glass windshield that scratches and chips if you look at it the wrong way. My ’09 was tough, rugged, bulletproof. Yeah, after Honda Care expires, adios.

Yeah. These windshields are the easiest to scratch in my experience. We have 14k and the window has multiple superficial chips all over it.
Yes. Out of nowhere. I thought it was tiny spots of tree sap at first. Not so much. Sometimes you forget about it until the sun hits it a certain way. Then my OCD kicks in.

Never heard this “soft glass” mentioned, but my ’24 CR-V has an insane amount of micro scratches already. Why would they use such glass?
I’m speaking from personal experience on that one. I swear, grains of sand practically pit the thing. I started using Rain X and that seems to coat it enough to deflect stuff and fill everything in. The ride and handling are much better than my ’09 was. Apples to apples though, my previous CR-V didn’t require any pampering. Another gripe while I’m on it. The sound system is weak comparatively. I absolutely hate the way you are forced into the Touring to get a decent sound system. That should be an option on the lower trims. Very irritating.
@Cody
The base sound system was a big step above the Foresters had. They sounded like a tin can. But yeah, not having the ability to add the sound system sucks.
That happened to me last month in the Bronx. $2600 insurance covered it and I paid the $500 deductible. Honda isn’t helping customers prevent this from happening. People are talking about a class action lawsuit. This is clearly a design flaw and the only ones making money from it is Honda. They sell wave radar covers online but Honda should be installing them. I went to a shop in the Bronx that installs the covers. It was $120…their cover and installation. They don’t drill holes into the car grille, they drill holes in the cover. I’d rather pay that than have it stolen again. I don’t know why they steal them; they can’t be used on another car. While I was at the shop, the guy told me to get another set of wheel locks. It seems 1 set of wheel locks is not a deterrent. Smh…if I knew this I wouldn’t have got a Honda.
