Should I Go for a 2018 Honda CR-V with a Year-Long Gap in Carfax?

Hey everyone,

I’ve got my eye on a 2018 Honda CR-V that’s sitting at 110,000 km on the odometer. The car looks great and drove well when I tested it. BUT, here’s the thing—between 2018 and 2023, it only racked up 36,000 km, and all the maintenance is on the Carfax report. Since 2023, though, there’s no info on the report and it suddenly jumped from 36,000 km to 110,000 km. That’s like a 70,000 km mystery in one year!

I’m not sure if I should go ahead with it or if that gap is a red flag. Any advice?

That’s a huge gap! I’d ask the dealership for more details about that missing year. It could be an issue with Carfax or maybe the car was driven heavily in one year and not serviced at an authorized dealer. Also, check for any signs of excessive wear that might suggest it was driven hard

the mileage jump seems sketchy, especially with no record. Maybe it was used for Uber or delivery, and they didn’t report maintenance. I’d be wary of that, but if the price is really good, maybe get a mechanic to inspect it closely before buying

I agree with others. Could be nothing, but that’s a big jump. I would definitely get an independent mechanic to do a full inspection, and maybe even try getting the service records from the previous owner directly. Some dealerships don’t report everything to Carfax.

Sounds like a typical dealership dodge. I wouldn’t trust it unless you get a real good look under the hood. 70,000 km in one year is a lot, even for a CR-V! Definitely get a second opinion and maybe ask for a discount if they can’t explain the gap.

I would look into whether the car was driven overseas or in another country. Sometimes, mileage doesn’t get properly reported if the vehicle wasn’t serviced locally. Ask about that and maybe check for accident reports too, just in case.
