I’m checking out a used 2012 CR-V EX-L AWD with around 77k miles. The dealership is asking about $15.7k.
According to the Carfax, the previous owner was pretty diligent with oil changes, doing them every 5,000 miles or so.
I’m mainly looking for a reliable commuter that’s easy and affordable to maintain. I work from home, so I’d probably only drive it about 50 miles a week, with some occasional road trips and camping trips. I know Hondas have a solid rep, but I’m not super familiar with the CR-V, especially at this age. Any tips or things to watch for during a test drive?
I’m considering adding a maintenance package and maybe an extended warranty, but I’d love to hear some first-hand experiences and opinions about this model. Do you think it’s a good deal and will it suit my needs?
Any thoughts on gas, mileage, maintenance costs, etc.? Any advice would be awesome!

Honestly, the 2012 CR-V is a solid pick, especially with that mileage. I have a 2010, and it’s been nothing but reliable for me. The AWD version should handle great for those camping trips! As for price, $15.7k is a bit high considering the age, but if it’s in great condition and comes with some warranties, it might be worth it. I’d try to haggle it down a bit though!

I own a 2012 CR-V and I’ve put almost 150k on mine. Never had any major issues. Gas mileage is decent – I average around 23-25 mpg. Maintenance costs are manageable too. It’s a workhorse for sure. Check the brakes and suspension during your test drive. But yeah, it sounds like it’ll fit your needs perfectly for light commuting and road trips.

I had a 2012 CR-V for years! Super reliable, and 77k miles is nothing for this car. Hondas run forever if you take care of them. The maintenance package might not be necessary if you’re good with oil changes and keeping an eye on fluids. As for the extended warranty, maybe skip that unless the dealership throws it in for cheap.

For camping trips, you’ll love the cargo space in the CR-V. Tons of room for gear and it handles dirt roads pretty well, especially the AWD model. My only advice would be to check the tires and make sure they’ve got enough tread for those trips! $15.7k feels a little steep to me though – maybe shoot for $13-14k if you can.

I bought a similar one a few years ago and never regretted it. It’s my daily driver, and I also take it on long road trips. Comfort-wise, it’s solid, and the EX-L trim gives you those nice extras. As others said, maybe try to negotiate the price down, but it sounds like a great find. Go for it!

I’d agree with others – the price is a tad high, but with that low mileage, it’s hard to complain too much. The only real issue I’ve seen with the 2012 model is the A/C system – it can act up and repairs aren’t cheap. Definitely make sure the A/C is running well during your test drive. Other than that, should be good for years!
