Trouble with Key Fob and Trunk – Anyone Know How to Check the Battery? ⚠️

Hey everyone, does anyone know how to check the battery level of the key fob?

Issue I’m having: I’ve got a 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. The other day, I had my key in my bag and tried opening the trunk by just putting my hand on the lever (like 5 times!), but nothing happened. Then, it worked once I took the key out of my bag and pressed the lift button on the fob.

Anyone else experience this? Could it be a battery thing?

Yeah, that sounds like it could be the key fob battery getting weak. Usually, when the signal is weak, it struggles to communicate through stuff like bags. Try opening it without the bag next time to test it. For checking the battery, some fobs have an indicator on the dash if it’s really low. Otherwise, I’d just swap it out if it’s been a while.

Had the same thing happen with my '22 CR-V! Definitely sounds like a battery issue, but Honda didn’t make it super obvious when the fob battery is dying. If you have a multimeter, you can check the voltage (it should be around 3V). But honestly, key fob batteries are cheap. I’d just replace it.

Could also be the signal getting blocked because the key’s in your bag. I noticed my CR-V has trouble reading the fob if it’s buried under too much stuff. As for battery checks, I don’t think there’s a way to directly check on the fob itself, but it’s worth popping in a fresh one anyway.

Yup, I second the battery suggestion! I had this exact problem, and changing the battery fixed it right up. These little batteries can die quick depending on how often you use the keyless entry. Just grab a new CR2032 battery, swap it, and see if that helps.

Hey, I had the same issue! It’s super annoying. The key fob’s battery is probably getting low. I got mine replaced at the dealership, but if you’re into DIY, you can grab a new battery at any store. It’s usually a CR2032 like someone else mentioned.
