Hey everyone, I know the title might sound a bit off, but I’m thinking about buying a 2025 hybrid sport.
I’m not too worried about catalytic converter theft since it seems like it’s not an easy target. But I’m curious about other parts of the CR-V hybrid that thieves might go after.
How high is the risk for other items being stolen? I’m planning on using Faraday boxes, a steering wheel club, and an Apple AirTag for added security. But I’m trying to filter out all the negative stuff I’ve been reading and just want to know if I should go ahead with the purchase.
Hey there! In my experience, hybrid cars like the CR-V don’t have as many parts that thieves commonly go for. That said, keep an eye on things like your car’s badge and mirrors—sometimes they’re small targets. But your plan with the steering wheel club and Apple AirTag sounds smart.
Hey! The CR-V hybrid is a pretty solid choice. Besides the catalytic converter, other common targets are things like wheel rims and tires, but the CR-V’s design makes it less of a target compared to high-end luxury cars. Your security setup sounds great—Faraday boxes and an AirTag should definitely help deter thieves
The radar sensor behind the front emblem is a common target for theft, and replacing it can be expensive. A good solution is installing a metal bracket with security screws, which makes it much tougher for thieves to take. This worked well for earlier CR-V generations, so it’s definitely worth considering
If it helps, I called my insurance provider (TD Auto) to compare the cost of owning a CR-V versus a Tucson or Rogue, purely in terms of yearly insurance rates. They mentioned that if you’re in Toronto, you’ll need to get an aftermarket theft immobilizer for the CR-V, as it’s a big target for theft there—same goes for Lexus.
Outside of Toronto, the rates are pretty similar, but the CR-V is slightly more expensive to insure compared to the competition, especially considering it’s a hybrid.
