2014 CR-V Transmission Problems? Bad Luck or Something Else?

Hey everyone, got a question about the 2014 CR-V models. Do these have a known history of transmission issues?

My wife and I just bought a 2014 CR-V from Carmax with about 98k miles on it. Honestly, I had a weird feeling about it from the start – the engine sounded louder than usual, but we went ahead with it anyway. After driving it for a few days, the car started shaking a lot. Took it in, and yep – transmission issue.

We found another 2014 CR-V with only 63k miles on it that we liked, so we had it shipped to our location. This time we test-drove it longer, no weird noises or shaking. Seemed fine, so we finalized the deal. On the way home, though, it started shaking just a little bit again. Took it to work today, and the loud engine noise started up again, along with more shaking. At one point, the speedometer needle was bouncing. We’re taking it to Carmax’s mechanics tomorrow, but honestly, it’s giving me the same vibes as the first one with transmission issues.

Both cars had 0 accidents on the auto reports and came from different locations, so I’m wondering if maybe it’s something else. Has anyone else had this experience?

Sounds frustrating! I had a 2014 CR-V and never had any transmission issues, but I did have a problem with the motor mounts, which caused shaking. Maybe check that out too. If the mounts are worn, it could be making everything feel unstable.

I had a 2014 CR-V with a similar issue around 60k miles. Turned out it wasn’t the transmission, but a torque converter problem. Car would shake at low speeds or when shifting gears. Might be worth looking into.

I think it might be more than just bad luck. The 2014 models aren’t famous for transmission issues, but I’ve heard of a few people having similar complaints. Could also be an engine misfire or even something to do with the suspension.

The speedometer needle bouncing could indicate an issue with the sensors or even the electronics. I’d have them check the transmission sensors or anything related to the speed sensors. Sometimes a small electrical fault can throw everything off.

If both cars have that shaking and loud engine noise, it could be something with the drivetrain or even a balance issue. Not always a transmission problem, but I’d definitely ask the mechanic to do a full check of the drivetrain.
