Can My Old Forester Wheels Work on Mom's CR-V?

Hey everyone,
My mom’s thinking about getting winter tires, and I have an old set of wheels from my Forester that I could give her. They’ve got the same bolt pattern, but there are some differences: the Forester wheels are +48 offset, 7 inches wide, and 17 inches in diameter, while her Honda OEM wheels are +45 offset, 7.5 inches wide, and 18 inches. I was thinking of pairing them with 225/65/17 tires since the scrub radius would match. It seems like it could work, but I’m unsure if the offset might bring the wheels too close to the brakes, or if the rim width matters in that regard. Also, do 17s even clear the brakes on a CR-V? I think they do, but I’m not 100% certain. Any advice would be awesome!

It’s always a good idea to double-check with a mechanic or tire shop before making any changes to your car’s wheels and tires. They can verify if the offset and dimensions are compatible with your mom’s CR-V and ensure a safe fit.

I’ve seen people running 17s on CR-Vs, so it’s definitely doable. The only thing that might be a little tricky is the width difference, but since you’re only off by half an inch, it should be good. The +48 offset won’t make a huge difference in brake clearance.

Besides offset and rim width, you might also want to consider the load rating of the tires. Make sure they are rated to handle the weight of your mom’s CR-V. Also, keep in mind that using different wheels and tires can affect your car’s handling and performance.

If you can, try test-fitting one of the Forester wheels with a tire on your mom’s CR-V. This will give you a better idea of how the wheel and tire combination will fit and if there are any clearance issues.

17s should fit on the CR-V without a problem. The slight difference in offset shouldn’t be a big deal either, but you might want to double-check the clearance around the brakes and suspension just to be safe.
