Help! How to Stop Door Ding From Rusting?

Hey guys, I just got my 2022 Hybrid Touring, and of course, someone already gave it a nasty door ding. It’s about a 1-inch cut through the paint, straight to the metal, and around 1/8 of an inch wide. I’m not looking for a flawless fix, but I definitely don’t want it rusting or looking terrible in 5-10 years. Any suggestions on how to properly fix it and prevent rust without breaking the bank? Appreciate the help!

Man, that sucks! Best thing is to grab some touch-up paint ASAP. You can usually find a kit that matches your car’s color online or at the dealer. Clean the area with some rubbing alcohol, let it dry, apply a few layers of paint, and then top it off with clear coat. Should protect it from rusting over time.

I feel your pain! I’d suggest hitting it with some rust converter first. It’ll neutralize any rust starting to form. Then follow up with touch-up paint and clear coat like FixItFast92 said. That way, you’re covered for any long-term rust issues.

If you’re worried about it getting worse before you fix it, slap some nail polish over it temporarily. It’ll keep moisture out until you can get the proper stuff. It’s a quick and dirty solution, but it works!

If you really want it to last and you’re not afraid to spend a little, take it to a professional. They can do a paint blend or even a spot repair that’ll look almost brand new. Costs more than DIY, but it’ll be worth it if you care about longevity.

Wax the area after you fix it up. Even if you go with touch-up paint, adding wax will help keep the elements away and slow down any future damage.
