Is This 1999 CR-V Worth It?

Hey everyone! I came across a 1999 CR-V with 800,000 miles, and it has some rust. I’m wondering if it’s still worth buying?

It’s a manual CR-V with only 80,000 miles on it for $3,000. The current owner has ratchet straps on the bottom to support the gas tank (he says it’s not necessary, just added for extra security). The undercarriage looks pretty rusty, but the rest of the car seems solid. What do you all think? Is it a good buy or should I steer clear?

Wow, seriously? It’s clear you’re not familiar with car mechanics, so I get that you might not know what an undercarriage should look like. But come on, it wouldn’t hurt to do a little research! There are some critical components accessed from under there, and if you can’t identify them, you’ll run into issues when it’s time for repairs. Honestly, this car is totaled. It’s not even worth the scrap value since most of the materials are just done for.

I’ve never met a car enthusiast who adds extra supports to their fuel tank for no reason. If they’re doing it, there’s probably a real issue, and they’re just trying to keep the car running.

It’s basically a parts car at this point; I’d only buy it for the parts value. B20 engines are pretty valuable these days since they’re getting harder to find.

You really shouldn’t buy this. Seriously, don’t even consider it! Your safety is at stake here. Even a minor collision could be dangerous, and it could put your life at risk.

That bottom is going to fall apart. Seriously, don’t go for it. It looks more like it’s got 800,000 miles than just 80,000.
