Steering Wheel Shaking When Braking at 40-55 mph – Is It Time for a Checkup?

Hey everyone,

I’m noticing something a bit weird with my 2021 CR-V EX-L that has around 50k miles on it. Whenever I’m driving between 40-55 mph and hit the brakes, the steering wheel shakes a bit. It’s not super bad, but it’s definitely noticeable. I haven’t done any brake checkups yet, just regular maintenance.

There’s no squeaking when I brake, and the car doesn’t pull to one side or anything like that.

One thing that might be worth mentioning—I had a tire blowout at 15k miles (OEM tire completely exploded), but I’m not sure if that’s related.

Should I take it to the shop and get the brakes checked? Appreciate any advice, thanks!

Sounds like it could be your brake rotors starting to warp. That tends to cause shaking when braking at higher speeds. I’d get them looked at before they get worse.

Definitely sounds like a rotor issue to me too. If they’re warped, you might feel that vibration around the speed range you mentioned. I’d also get your tires balanced and aligned while you’re at it.

Had the same issue with mine around 60k miles. Warped rotors were the culprit. Got them resurfaced and everything was smooth again. You should be fine if you catch it early!

Could be the rotors, but also check your wheel bearings. Sometimes a bad bearing can cause vibrations too, especially if you’ve had a blowout before. Either way, a shop visit is a good idea

I’d agree with everyone here, sounds like a rotor issue. Might want to check the condition of your brake pads while you’re at it. If the pads are worn down, it could add to the problem
